Last week, HerStyleMedia attended the Simply Stylist Chicago Fashion and Beauty Conference at the Dana Spa & Hotel, and got a chance to be surrounded by some incredible people who are all passionate about the same things.

Sarah Boyd, who is often referred to as the “dot connector”, founded Simply Stylist. Initially, she wanted Simply Stylist to focus on public relations, events, and brand collections, but later had a vision to help people who dream of one day working in the fashion and beauty industry by creating an event for them to network and get educated with the prominent people who are leading the industry. By doing this, speakers and panelists were about to “share, inspire, and educate” anyone wanting to know more. Lets just say it grown bigger and better over the past several years.

The event started with a VIP brunch, panel, mixers, and workshops. In between the breakout session, guests could get massages, their hair done, or makeup retouched. Guests even got a chance to talk and take pictures with the to the expert panelists. Most importantly, they could mingle with every attendee and possibly connect and create lifelong relationships.

The best part of the event would have to be the panel discussion, which was hosted by E! News co-anchor Catt Sadler. The panel consisted of very successful, yet transparent people in the fashion and beauty industry: the Founder of EDrop Off , Corri McFadden; Fashion and Lifestyle Blogger, Jacey Duprie; Fashion and Beauty Blogger, Sazan Barzani, and Rachel Zoe’s bff, hair stylist and makeup artist to other stars, Joey Maaloouf.

They all gave insight and shared great advice about how they started, the in’s and out’s of the industry, and the things that they learned along the way.

Here are a couple key pieces of advice that the panelists shared from their experiences, and that we all can use throughout our everyday life to accomplish our dreams:

  • No matter the circumstances or the situation, always turn your negative into positive
  • Always listen to your gut!
  • Figure out what it is that you want to achieve, do your homework by researching your passion
  • Consistency is the key
  • Focus on yourself to avoid competitiveness from others
  • Use your resources and never be afraid to ask for help
  • So what if you fail, give whatever it may be a try because good or bad you will always learn something
  • Be Yourself!
