HerStyle was able to chat with the fabulous April Daniels about her inspirational campaign, Rock Out With Me, along with key advice that has helped her get to where she is today! You may know her from the Tamar & Vince Show, but trust me, she has so much more to offer to women and girls alike!

HerStyle Media: April, give our readers a little background on you.

April Daniels: “ I initially started my public appearance on the Tamar & Vince Show. It is the spin-off show that Tamar Braxton, Toni Braxton’s baby sister, has on WE TV. It’s a show that showcases her marriage and her friends, which includes myself and my husband, LaShawn Daniels, who is a Grammy Award Winning song writer… so people pretty much knew who he was more than myself. That’s where my presence pretty much came from. From it, I decided to start this campaign, and it’s really been a great experience.”

HerStyle Media: Explain to us the name behind your campaign, “Rock Out With Me”. How did you come up with that?

April Daniels: “ There was an episode on the Tamar and Vince Show, and my husband and I were disagreeing, and summing it up, I said, ‘You know I don’t want to disagree with you, I just want you to rock out with me!’ When I said it, it kind of took a life of it’s own. I had boyfriends, girlfriends, husbands, wives, reaching out to me on social media saying ‘I told my husband, my significant other, that he needs to rock out with me’ and ‘My wife told me that I need to rock out with her,’ so it was just crazy how it kind of took a life of its own. When I said it, I was just expressing me at that time. I wasn’t even thinking about the impact that it would have on everyone else. I thought, if this name has this much power then the theme should be going with power things. I thought that it was a great time to mix it with some things that I was going through when I initially took the role to be on the show with Tamar and Vince. I found it to be a time where I was an advocate for girl power – I couldn’t understand it. I thought I would be able to connect with other women who were doing the same things that I was doing, but it came a time where it seemed like women weren’t friendly and they didn’t want you to get more than what they had. When you take that and this theme, and you tie them together and you create a campaign that unites women.”

HerStyle Media: What would you say is the motivating force behind keeping your campaign, Rock Out With Me going, and continuing to spread that positivity from city to city?

April Daniels: “Women spend so much time promoting foolishness, and I think to myself why can’t we promote something that’s beneficial to every woman? This campaign is beneficial to every single woman. We have everything to gain by coming together – we have nothing to gain by tearing each other down. So, with this campaign I want every woman to be touched by it. We need more positivity and we need less drama – we need things that are going to uplift us and help us grow. We have a generation to come behind us and what are we leaving them with? I know I’m only one person, but I’m one person with a big mouth and I’m just all about uniting, loving and respecting women!

HerStyle Media: How has it been receiving feedback about the growth of your campaign from family, friends and fans, and what has that feedback been like?

April Daniels: “ Oh my gosh, let me tell you… when I sat down and did the initial kickoff in Beverly Hills last October it was really nice and the turnout was great. But when we really sat down and started looking at the details of the tour, everything that has been happening has surpassed my imagination. I’ve had women come up to me and say ‘You have no idea, I was about to commit suicide but I stumbled across your page on social media and it totally inspired me to go that route…” Just because I know that I’ve made that impact, it speaks volume. When you know that you have an impact on people, and you have a platform, I just think your platform should be beneficial. If you’re going to do something, make it count!”

HerStyle Media: What do you want women in Chicago to get from your campaign this weekend? What are you looking for them to take from it, and say ‘I’m so glad that I went there because this is what I learned…?’

April Daniels: “I want them to understand that I don’t care how much it glitters, everyone has a story, and I think with the special gift that I have, I am willing to share the not so great moments that have brought me to the point that I am at now. By being vulnerable you are able to make a breakthrough. I’m looking to be able to share and be transparent. I want to inspire women to be better! Inspire them to get rid of things that might be toxic in their lives. I always said women have super powers, so I feel like if we all come together…oh my god, we would be unstoppable.”

unnamed-2HerStyle Media: What tool would you say has really helped you grow as a person and as an entrepreneur?

April Daniels: “My faith. If you don’t believe in what you’re doing then you’re not doing anything. At the end of the day, when people doubt you or you feel like you’re alone, you have to be the one to tell yourself that you can do it! If you leave it up to other people, nobody would have anything. God knows I couldn’t have done half of this without my faith. I can’t leave out my team! I love that they’re all women because they get what I’m doing and they understand it. Between a good team and your faith, there’s nothing you can’t do.”

HerStyle Media: What other projects are you working on outside of “Rock Out With Me”?

April Daniels: “ After I do the campaign for women, I’m doing one for couples with my husband. I’m definitely looking forward to that! We are taking it to other cities, although we aren’t sure what cities we will be touring at yet. A lot of couples don’t succeed because they think that they are the only couple going through problems. Me and my husband are an open book, and until we found our happy medium we had to learn how to deal with certain situations.”
