Are you a beginner interested in taking your makeup skills to the next level? One thing guaranteed to help you do that is makeup brushes! Brushes are essential to getting neat makeup looks because they do things your fingers and makeup sponges can’t. They apply products precisely and even help blend these products into the skin for a more natural look. However, depending on the quality, brushes can be extremely expensive. But no fear, I know of a line of brushes that won’t break the bank but they’ll still leave you with a flawless face.

If you’ve been interested in beauty products for a while you’ve probably heard of e.l.f. E.l.f., which stands for Eyes, Lip, Face is an extremely affordable makeup brand available in retail stores such as Target and Urban Outfitters and online at They offer a variety of eyeshadows, blush and lip colors for just $1 each! They also have a studio line for products where prices range from $3-$8. However, it’s their brushes that seem to get all the attention. Here are a few e.l.f. brushes that are essential for beauty junkies:

e.l.f. Essential Eyeshadow Brush- $1

This brush is amazing! I have two in my makeup kit and I use them every time I apply eyeshadow. The essential brush is a basic eyeshadow brush and can be used to apply eyeshadows to the lid, inner corner and brow bone. This brush is great because it is a bit small for a basic eyeshadow brush which means it will give you precise color application. My absolute favorite thing to use this brush is for packing eyeshadow onto the lids. Depending on the quality, some eyeshadows require a lot of time and a lot of product to show up true to color but this brush makes packing color onto the lids incredibly easy! This brush is a must have.

e.l.f. Essential Blending Brush-$1

For those of you who like to use lots of color this brush will make blending a lot easier for you. Blending is important because it gives your eyeshadow a seamless transition from one color to the next. However, many beginners struggle with blending because it tends to be tedious and  time-consuming. This brush’s tapered domed shape helps mix eyeshadows to blend everything together.

e.l.f. Essential Eyelash and Eyebrow Wand- $1

So I’m sure most of you have seen this type of brush in a mascara tube. It pretty much serves the same purpose except this one is used for grooming. Before filling-in your eyebrows you can use this brush to make sure the hairs of your brows are in place and you can use it afterwards to blend the product into the brow to give you the most natural look possible. Same goes for eyelashes. You can use this wand to straighten and comb through your eyelashes before applying mascara to avoid tangled lashes.

e.l.f. Studio Angled Eyeliner Brush- $3

This brush is used specifically for gel or cream eyeliners. Applying gel or cream eyeliners with a regular brush can be a hassle because it requires some awkward movements of the hand and wrist to apply properly. This brush takes the work out of it. The bent tip of the brush allows you to move freely while applying the eyeliner.
